Death Saves Alternatives

Before we dive into any changes, let's review the basic rules first. Death Saves in D&D 5e: What they are and how to use them . Death saving throws are an important part of Dungeons & Dragons 5e. They decide if a character survives after being knocked out by damage. The summary of the rules for them is: Rolling a d20: At the start of each turn after a character drops to 0 hit points, roll a d20. A roll of 10 or higher is a success, while a roll of 9 or lower is a failure. Stabilisation: If a character rolls three successes before three failures, they stabilise and are no longer in danger of dying. If they roll three failures, they die. Stabilisation Methods: Allies can stabilise a character by performing a DC 10 Wisdom (Medicine) check. If successful, the character becomes stable and stops making death saves. Healing: Any healing spell or potion that gives the character 1 hit point or more restores them to consciousness and resets the death saving throw count. Understandi...

Why don't you do do something less boring like GMing instead

We live n die on the support of the members and especially members stepping forward and GMing a rotation.

It does not have to be Dungeons and Dragons, in fact some of our members prefer playing not D&D, while others prefer D&D.

We are open to any and all RPGs, just post what you are interested in running, and if possible when you would like to run it.

Currently we have
  1. Shadow of the Weird Wizard
  2. medley of indie story games ("The Indie Dozen")
  3. TBC D&D5e
  4. WFRP campaign
  5. Castle Falkenstein

April 2025 Rotation

  1. Ovion Market D&D5e
  2. Eve of Ruin part 2 D&D 5e
  3. Mothership
  4. Delta Green

August 2025 Rotation

  1. Bard Harder D&D 5e
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5.

December 2025 Rotation

  1.
  2.
  3.
  4.
So...
If you are willing,
If you have a game idea and if you are brave enough.
Maybe you can become a Game Master

Scared...

That's no problem, we can help you work out what you need

At core is:
1) the idea and
2) willingness to run one

Then its either a pre-cooked campaign, an open world (thinking on the seat of your pants) or a blend of both

So what is stopping you from being a GM?

Does it need to be D&D

No (but does not stop you from running D&D)

I am scared I don't know all the rules

So what, neither do most players.
If really worried then do what I done, Run a system no one knows, for me it was Misspent Youth and then Era games - at the time only I knew those rules in the club.

But at core its Role play not rule play, mess up or need to look up a rule - So what, either look it up then, or go with gut and flow of game and look it up after for next time.

How to find a RPG / D&D group near you

Looking for online RPG groups for beginners? Or perhaps you are a veteran player in need of another in-person campaign? Finding a tabletop RPG group near you can be a challenge, but fear not this little ditty should help you find the right RPG group for you. Time and location are the two biggest problems for RPG players looking for a RPG group. How to Find a RPG Group Offline There’s no experience quite like playing RPG in the physical presence of your fellow players. Most beginner and experienced RPG players alike prefer to play offline RPG. It is not as easy to find a group, but it is 100% possible. The Starter’s Set The official D&D Starter Set might be the best way to play D&D for the first time. It includes a set of dice, premade characters, a basic rulebook, and a game that takes players from Level 1 to Level 5. Other RPGs have similar starting rule sets that are great for diving into a RPG. If you have (or can find) a group of friends who would also like to form a beginn...

Running your combat in "Theatre of the Mind" a different Roleplaying experience

First off this is not just limited to Dungeons & Dragons, but can be applied to all systems. How To Run Narrative Combat For those used to running RPGs using a gridded battle map and miniatures, running narrative "theatre of the mind" combat can feel both terribly strange and strangely familiar. If we're used to running combat on a 5 foot per square grid, the switch to combat in the theatre of the mind can easily make us feel like something is missing. How can we really know what's going on in combat if we can't see it? The answer lies in the other two pillars of our game—exploration and interaction. We don't set up battle maps and lay out miniatures when our characters have a discussion with an NPC. We likely don't set up a big map and start counting off squares when the characters explore an ancient ruin (although we can!). We don't have visual queues when we're describing how a thief narrowly avoids a poisoned pin while attempting to disarm ...
